Michelle Luna

LMFT, LCDC

Therapist

Michelle is a fully Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Michelle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University.

“I chose the Marriage and Family Therapy route because the education was specific to mental health and family systems, as it relates to a broad variety of populations and issues.” While attending graduate school, Michelle completed an internship providing Medical Family Therapy at a local hospital, working in the Children’s PICU and the Children’s Oncology Department.

Upon completion of graduate school, Michelle began working at Managed Care in Lubbock, TX, a state-funded treatment center, serving the low-income/underserved population struggling with addiction. There, Michelle discovered her passion for guiding individuals with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Michelle continued this for two more years at The Ranch at Dove Tree in Lubbock, TX, a dual-diagnosis treatment center, with experience in Residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care.

Michelle understands that addiction is a disease and a symptom of the true underlying problem. Michelle’s focus is on treating a person’s trauma, mental health, and any other underlying issues, in order to start leading a healthy life of recovery. Michelle uses a blend of Experiential/Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and believes the family system is a vital part of treatment in order for an individual to be successful.

Michelle’s professional areas of interest are substance abuse, childhood trauma, and unresolved grief and loss. Michelle works with the client to heal the unhealthy attachment styles or trauma responses that have been barriers to a healthy and sober life as well as guide their family toward any necessary treatment or education to help heal the family as a whole.
