Fitness expert Kevin Curry was suffering from depression after the loss of his job and his girlfriend. Just as Curry was about to end his life, he got a phone call from his counselor, who he had not spoken to in some time, and it saved his life. Curry was able to treat his depression by talking to his therapist and cooking food that changed his diet and mental well-being.

 

How a Counselor Helped Save Curry

 

Curry had spoken to his counselor only a few times, and it had been weeks since talking to her. Due to this, she reached out to him in hopes of setting up another appointment. Curry decided to go to the appointment and faced some deep questions about his drinking, dreams, and mental health. The counselor asked him if he would take medicine if he had a common cold and experienced a mental shift. At this point, Curry realized there is nothing wrong with receiving help for a mental health condition. Curry felt like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders, and after he was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in 2010, he embraced therapy and medication to treat his condition.

 

Cooking and Nutrition Also Saved His Life

 

Curry wanted to get himself more into shape by changing his diet. He bought every book at his nearby bookstore on nutrition and began cooking. In 2012, Curry posted the dishes he cooked on social media to get advice from others on his diet. After all of the questions and praises he got from people online, he created the website Fit Men Cook, which is dedicated to a community that wants to live healthier and happier lives.

Today, Curry has over 2 million followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube combined. He has also published a cookbook and two meal prep applications. Curry admits that despite his success, he still has his low moments. He came up with six strategies to help those with anxiety and depression:
